Review:

I want to make my husband fall back in love with me.

Let me explain. This isn’t an exercise in 1950s wifeydom. I haven’t been reading articles in old women’s magazines. ‘Twenty ways to keep your man’. That couldn’t be further from the truth.

I want him to fall back in love with me so that when I tell him to get the hell out of my life he’ll care. He won’t just think, ‘Oh good’.

I want it to hurt.

Paula has had Robert’s back since they got together as drama students.
She gave up her dreams so he could make it.
Now he’s one of the nation’s most popular actors.
And Paula’s just discovered he’s having an affair.

She’s going to remind Robert just what he’s sacrificing.
And then she’s going to break his heart like he broke hers.
It will be her greatest acting role ever.

Revenge is sweet.
Isn’t it?

I must start off by saying, I absolutely LOVE Jane Fallon’s books so when I received this for my birthday in January I was ecstatic and could not wait to start it! Honestly if you’ve never read anything by this lovely lady you are missing out, they’re such easy-going and relatable reads.

My Sweet Revenge was so captivating and I really did laugh out loud on more than one occasion. I love when a book is so easy to follow and each time you pick it up, even if you last read a chapter a few days ago, you know exactly where you are and what’s happening. Having had such a busy week this book was absolutely perfect for me! I thought the storyline of this novel was brilliant, I found myself saying ‘just one more chapter’ at midnight because I just needed to know what Paula was going to do and what the next element of the plan was to leave her cheating husband. I even found myself up at 1am on a Sunday night to read the final 100 pages!! I was NOT left disappointed, despite this being such an easy-read, I was super impressed with the twist of the story at the end! It doesn’t quite end exactly how we think (or how Paula and Josh have planned either)!!

I particularly loved how in the second part of the book the chapters were alternated between the perspectives of Paula and Saskia. Getting an insight into Saskia’s life just made me hate her self-centred self even more!

Jane Fallon did a brilliant job of allowing the reader to picture Paula, her surroundings and life so vividly, she was such a loving and funny lady, which obviously made me loathe Saskia and Robert for what they were doing behind her back. Both Paula and Josh were such lovable characters so I was rooting for them all the way! I felt as if it was a breath of fresh air to read a book like this where the wife has been cheated on, yet she wasn’t all doom and gloom over it and feeling sorry for herself. Although Paula was initially shocked at the discovery of her husband’s secret, she was surprisingly upbeat and decided she would get revenge by losing weight and making Robert fall back in love with her before confronting him and leaving him! You go girl!!!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this fabulous novel by one of my favourite authors, Jane Fallon! I would 100% recommend this to anybody that is looking for a funny, easy read and it definitely deserves a big five out of five stars!!!
