The Breakdown – B A Paris

Review:

Cass Anderson didn’t stop to help the woman in the car, and now she’s dead.

Ever since, silent calls have been plaguing Cass and she’s the breakdownsure someone is watching her.

Consumed by guilt, she’s also starting to forget things. Whether she took her pills, what her house alarm code is – and if the knife in the kitchen really had blood on it.

I have a feeling this review is going to be a difficult one without giving away any spoilers, but I will try my absolute best!

This book was extremely chilling all the way through, the mood was set for the entire book in the very first pages as Cass drove through the woods during a frightening storm, against the will of her husband and passed a car stopped in a layby…

Although the title of this thriller is very simple, I thought it was an excellent choice for this story. I noticed how appropriate ‘The Breakdown’ was as the whole story spiralled from two very different kinds of breakdowns! I think it’s so important for a book to have the perfect title and The Breakdown smashed that!

B A Paris certainly kept me guessing right the way through this book! The whole time I couldn’t decide whether Cass’s actions were due to an illness such as dementia or whether she had a tormentor who was constantly setting her up and leading her to believe she was turning crazy and losing her mind!

The author did an excellent job of making Cass’s husband, Matthew a likable character and I almost began to feel pity for him as I could imagine Cass’s actions began to tire! When the twist was revealed I was left in complete and utter, jaw-hanging, shock!!! Honestly I was speechless, I was quite astonished how well the author had written the story, and I didn’t foresee the twist in any way!! So in my opinion, Paris has succeeding in another superb thriller!!

The number one element which made this book so fascinating and absorbing is how the author made me feel a certain way about different characters and how towards the end this was completely blown out the water and flipped upside down and I was so SO wrong! Honestly all the characters I thought were up to no good, were actually the genuine people and those who I believed to be nice and caring were the absolute opposite!

Another chilling, consuming and addictive thriller by the wonderful B A Paris, yet so completely different from Behind Closed Doors! I would 100% recommend you add it to that ever-growing TBR list!!
