Review:

When India falls to her death from a bridge over a railway, her sister Poppy returns home to Brighton for the first time in years. Unconvinced by official explanations, Poppy begins her own investigation into India’s death. But the deeper she digs, the closer she comes to uncovering deeply buried secrets.

Could Matthew Temple, the boyfriend she abandoned, be involved? And what of his powerful and wealthy parents, and his twin sister, Ana? Enter the mysterious and ethereal Jenny: the girl Poppy discovers after hacking into India’s laptop. What is exactly is she hiding, and what did India find out about her?

Taking the reader on a breathless ride through the winding lanes of Brighton, into its vibrant party scene and inside the homes of its well-heeled families, The Other Twin is a startling and up-to-the-minute thriller about the social-media world, where resentments and accusations are played out online, where identities are made and remade, and where there is no such thing as truth.

Poppy was brought back to her hometown, Brighton after the tragic death of her younger sister, who she had barely spoke to since she left for London four (nearly five) years ago. Poppy is determined to discover the truth about her sister and what had been happening since she’d been away. Poppy uncovered many secrets involving three important families in the town, which completely blew people and their relationships apart! Some of the secrets which were dug out were fairly relatable issues for many people in this day and age, this is something I really like to see in a book, characters and fictional families dealing with situations which many people in real life do too.

I loved how the story involved social media, a lot of the usernames commenting on India’s blog posts were unknown, Poppy didn’t know who these people were, and therefore this was a huge question that needed to be found out. Poppy needed to know what her sister had been up to and who she was friends with to lead to the answer of why she ended up dead.

The Other Twin was a very dark and mysterious book, I found myself questioning every character as they were all keeping secrets which had been kept for many years! Similar to another book I read recently, my opinion of many characters completely flipped by the ending, I’d judged the whole Temple family and I was so wrong about every one!

The ending of this book was the absolute best I could have hoped for, it was very satisfying! The secrets were all unearthed and those that needed help, got it. I was really glad for Poppy’s sake that she got to see people for who they really were as she’d clearly seen the wrong side of people she was closest to all her life! I will definitely look forward to reading more by this wonderful author!

A huge thank you to Anne Cater and Orenda Books for my advanced copy of the book and the opportunity to take part on the blog tour!!
